Job Description

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Health and Wellness develops, organizes, and implements high-quality, member-focused fitness classes and activities. This includes but is not limited to, group exercise, personal training, new member orientations, and youth programs.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree or higher in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Accredited Personal Training and Group Exercise Certification from an approved organization. 
  • Experience in a wide range of areas; growing and developing revenue in personal training, knowledge of group exercise trends, and managing staff. 
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds, as well as physical and developmental abilities. 
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office. 
  • Ability to supervise, direct, and guide all operations with the knowledge of the YMCA’s long- and short-range goals. 
  • Completion of YMCA certifications/training currently in effect and may be amended from time to time. 
  • Valid driver’s license. Capacity to work a flexible schedule and respond to emergent situations. 
Essential Functions
  • Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters relationships and a sense of belonging in fulfillment of the YMCA mission.  
  • Recruits, hires, and supervises diverse Wellness staff, as well as motivates staff to achieve goals. Provides new opportunities as well as feedback for staff.  
  • Creates, directs, and supervises wellness activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.   
  • Designs and implements the schedule of Group Exercise programming to best serve the membership demographic, making format or instructor changes when necessary.  
  • Ensures that the group exercise schedule is accurate and that classes are running smoothly.  
  • Arranges for substitutes as necessary and leads classes when no instructor is available.  
  • Extends YMCA services to the community by scheduling community-based activities, outreach programming, and ensuring these programs are correctly billed.  
  • Prepares the annual department budget and administers approved budgets, taking appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness and delivering projections.
  • Maintains equipment and outside service contracts.
