Job Description

Under the supervision of the Health & Fitness Director and in accordance with the mission, purpose and established policies and goals of the Santa Monica Family YMCA,the Healthy Living Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to the supervision and management of all aspects of the group exercise program, including the development and implementation of new programs, volunteer recruitment and supervision; and teaching classes, the 8-Week Program, Orientations, and Teen Fit. 

Qualifications

Computer literate with proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe, and fitness management programs.Knowledge of current adult safety and program standards with the ability to incorporate those into programs.

Must have a minimum of three years’ experience in the fitness/group exercise field, an Associate’s Degree or training in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Certified Personal Trainer, or related field. Current national certification in group exercise and/or personal training, CPR, First Aid and AED required. Must have at least two years’ experience leading group exercise classes and familiar with interactive computerized fitness equipment. Must have the ability to work with, and support, health seekers in achieving healthier lifestyles. Management skills in staff/volunteer recruitment, training, supervision, and knowledge of program planning and promotion needed.

This position requires one to be enthusiastic and able to work a flexible schedule as needed.  The ability to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines is necessary.  Must be able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.  Must have good written, verbal and listening communication skills.  Must demonstrate professional conduct and the ability to work harmoniously with others.  Position requires a commitment to the mission and principles of the YMCA including the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Schedule Group exercise classes, work with instructors to insure they are present and the schedule is as satisfactory to our members as possible.  Should instructors call-out, attempt to find a replacement, but if unable, step in to substitute any classes when possible.

Ensure that all members and their guests are provided with a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.  Including but not limited to the maintenance and cleanliness of the wellness center.   As well as making sure that the members are safely using equipment.

Engage with members to ensure a positive experience and health and fitness needs are being met.

Assist the Director, when asked with recruitment, hiring, training, developing, and scheduling staff and volunteers to ensure quality programming is being delivered to all members consistent with the YMCA philosophy and mission.

Participate in staff meetings and other Y-related events as requested.

Respond to emails and calls as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours.

Be identifiable to members and guests, dress in a professional manner wearing your name tag and the designated staff uniform. 

Present a proactive and positive attitude with members, staff and volunteers.

Assume additional responsibilities when asked.

Required Certifications

Current national certification in group exercise and/or personal training, CPR, First Aid and AED required.
