Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.  The Manager is responsible for but not limited to: assisting in program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention and safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Manager at the Y, you lead an environment that is inviting and serves all.

Qualifications

1)Minimum 1 - 2 years related experience preferred. 

2)Current nationally recognized and YMCA-approved personal training certification or acquire Y-USA Foundations of              Strength and Conditioning Instructor certification within 30 days. Current recognized and YMCA-approved Group                  Exercise certification or Y-USA Foundations of Group Exercise certification preferred.

3)Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

4)Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

5)Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.

6)Adept computer skills in Office 365.

7)Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays.  Required to be On-Call with                      predetermined schedule.

8)Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.  

Essential Functions

1)Supports department to establish new program activities and expansion within the community in accordance with              strategic and operating plans.

2)Provides input for budget creation to follow and evaluate trends.

3)Provides hands-on oversight while working 60% of time as direct service.  

4)Recruits, hires, trains, develops team members.

5)Conducts team member feedback, corrective actions, and evaluations.

6)Responsible for the condition of equipment, performing regular equipment safety checks and promptly addressing any        major concerns.

7)Schedules and processes payroll functions.

8)Supports campaign efforts and donor engagement in the community and team members.

9)Models relationship building in all interactions through Listen First.

10)Responds to all member and community inquires and/or complaints in a timely manner.

11)Performs other duties as assigned. 

TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain Personal Training certifications and, if applicable, Group Exercise certifications.
  2. Responsible for following basic principles of strength and conditioning, consistently complying with guidelines set by  the YMCA and ACSM.
  3. Responsible for refraining from writing diets, prescribing supplements or diagnosing/curing any type of injury or illness; always referring members to a doctor when needed health or well-being is questioned.
