Job Description
The Mental Health Therapist provide psychotherapeutic services to assist clients in improving functioning, obtaining symptom relief, preventing psychosocial dysfunction or changing personality in a Montgomery County Public School.   The position is an in-person position and the person hired must possess an active Social Worker License in the state of Maryland (LBSW, LMSW, LCSW-C)
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy or counseling 
  • Licensed at graduate level in Maryland for:  LGSW,  LGPC, LGMFT, Psychologist Associate 
  • Knowledge of philosophies, practices, policies and outcomes of the most generally accepted scientifically supported models of treatment, recovery, prevention and continuing care for psychological, emotional, mental, addictions and/or substance abuse disorders and conditions
  • Knowledge of established diagnostic criteria, treatment modalities and placement criteria within the continuum of care for psychological, emotional, mental, addictions and/or substance abuse disorders and conditions
Essential Functions
  • Completes mental health assessment of children and adults
  • Offers individual, family and parent counseling
  • Leads or co-lead therapy and psycho-educational groups (child and adult groups)
  • Offers classroom observation
  • Consults with parents, school staff, and medical providers regarding child’s progress
  • Writes progress reports and letters to parent
  • Attends school and parent meetings (EMT/ARD/suspension, etc.)
  • Offers appropriate assistance during crises
