Job Description

The Assistant Controller primarily maintains monthly account reconciliations, coordinates month-end closing processes, facilitates annual audit preparation and assists branches with financial questions as needed. This position also assists in the documentation of internal controls and enforcing association policies and procedures. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required
  • CPA Certification preferred
  • Five or more years of related experience in accounting
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of banks, banking systems and cash management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computerized, database software, accounting systems
  • Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems
  • Ability to judge current operating systems and make improvements as necessary
  • Ability to motivate others, while being a team player in a collaborative environment
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire
Essential Functions
  • Support of month-end close processes, including maintaining various monthly account reconciliations, preparing journal entries and reviewing financial results for accuracy 
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for distribution to Senior Management, Finance Committee and Board of Directors 
  • Complete financial analysis as assigned 
  • Manage several licensing and reporting requirements for the state, banks, YUSA, and other organizations as defined 
  • Manage accounting software user access and permissions, assuring appropriate controls are maintained 
  • Assist with annual audit and budget preparation 
  • Research inquiries from the branches and other Association members on financial results, including variance analysis as needed. 
  • Assist with various process improvement projects and improved controls as assigned 
  • Maintain process/procedures and controls documentation 
  • Supervise Finance team members as assigned 
  • Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
