Job Description

The YMCA of Long Island is seeking a Vice President of Development who, under the direction of the President & CEO, will support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. You will oversee and provide leadership for all philanthropic outreach that supports the YMCA of Long Island’s mission including individual giving, major gifts, special events, grants and overall annual campaign strategy. You will assist in meeting the Association’s strategic plan for philanthropy and support Branch leadership with resources to meet goals set for campaigns.  The main accountability is to drive revenue to support the mission of the Y.   

Qualifications
  • BS/BA or equivalent, with five or more years fundraising experience in donor relations, annual giving campaigns, major gifts, grants coordination and special events.
  • Proven experience in cultivating and soliciting leadership level gifts to annual fund.
  • Demonstrated verbal and communications skills, leading large and small group presentations, group facilitation and training.  Skills in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and similar narrative pieces.
  • Ability to ready, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports.
  • Experience working closely with volunteers and in staffing volunteer committees/events.
  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA.
  • Capital Campaign experience is a plus.
Essential Functions
  • Organize, implement and support a comprehensive strategic philanthropy program in collaboration with the President & CEO, SVP & COO, executive and volunteer leadership. 
  • Develop and implement an association-wide annual campaign fundraising plan which includes cultivation and stewardship of donors.
  • Design and implement a major gifts plan that outlines personalized donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Track moves and actions with donors in accordance with the YMCA’s engagement continuum.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate, foundation and government funding program.
  • Enter and manage donor information, using the CRM software.
  • Support Branch staff and volunteers through training and coaching, to increase their success from direct and face-to-face solicitation efforts.
  • Track performance metrics to measure ROI of campaigns.
  • Prepare and distribute reports for management.
  • Provide templates and examples of prospect/donor solicitation and correspondence for Branch Executives.
  • Assist the President & CEO and SVP & COO in the execution of prospect/donor solicitation and correspondence for the corporate office.
  • Support YMCA of Long Island’s  special events working with the Special Events Manager to ensure they are of the highest quality.
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Director to manage and promote a communication plan to support the Y’s philanthropic mission.
