Job Description
Year-round position to organize Castaways and group programs, recreational activities, schedule, and supervise Program Instructors and Program Coordinators. Train program staff and coordinators in weekend Castaways program, YMCA policies and procedures, and be a liaison between program and management. Lead the development of program equipment and curriculum for all weekend and program group guests. Castaways Team Leader will assist the Waterfront Manager in the supervision, training, and scheduling of lifeguards and waterfront program needs. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, science, recreation, or related field Teaching credentials or experience in teaching/training preferred
- Minimum 1-year experience in leadership of educational outdoor residential program or related experience
- Computer training and demonstrated proficiently with basic programming skills
- Experience in guest communications, staff development, and program management
- Able to maintain positive relations with supervisor and other staff
- Ability to become site-specific challenge course manager
- Physical ability to respond to critical incidents throughout the camp and on trails
- Physical ability to implement all program areas and lead hikes over rugged terrain
- Ability to acquire and maintain USLA oceanfront waterfront lifeguarding certification
- CPR/AED, for both Adult and Child/Infant, and First Aid certified upon hire and must be from one of the following:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
Essential Functions
- Act as primary contact for groups before and during their stay. Build and maintain strong relationships with group guests, providing excellent customer service
- Be available when groups are on site, including most weekends, March through November
- Plan, develop and implement community-based programs
- Supervise program staff and coordinator
- Coordinate and train staff to run family-based recreational activities, including: climbing wall, archery, ocean-based, skateboarding, crafts and educational programming
- Coordinate all aspects of informational technology for program staff including the set-up and configuration of hardware, training, and supervision of staff for computer use, and development of systems to interface with administrative and management areas of camp efficiently
- Contribute to the development and implementation of staff trainings
- Maintain a positive attitude towards camp, clients and all other staff living on site
- Keep a positive relationship with all departments by responding to requests quickly and efficiently
- Follow specific directives and support Program Directors as assigned
- Assists in budget development
