Childwatch Coordinator 0-5 Programs/Events

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Youth and Family Director and consistent with the Gaston County Family YMCA Christian Mission, the Childwatch Coordinator will be responsible for day-to-day activities and curriculum for children and staff, operations of program areas, and supervision of staff.

Qualifications
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age

  • HS Diploma/Degree preferred

  • A minimum of one year experience working with children

  • Previous supervisory experience 

  • Competency in computer skills

Essential Functions
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of childwatch and keep all children and staff safe in your care
  • Provide leadership to youth services special programs such as birthday parties, parents night out and other family programs

  • Be a role model and set a great example for all children and staff in your area of influence.

  • Maintain excellent communication with all staff and families utilizing your program areas

  • Implement on new staff on boarding and required trainings as directed

  • Implement all required operating standards.

  • Department leadership and support of the Annual Campaign

  • Cross-market youth programming when appropriate

  • Responsible for planning age-appropriate curriculum, planning program schedules, and implementing monthly themes and art/science/math enrichments into all programming.

  • Implement all safety/security procedures for checking children in and out of your program area.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all participants' forms are current, complete and on file.

  • Responsible for maintaining daily attendance, sign out sheets, accident reports, and implementing daily lesson plans.

  • Demonstrate ability to resolve conflict situations with participants, staff and parents. 

  • Responsible for managing staff throughout the day and maintaining ratios at all times. 

  • Display a willingness to assist at all times.

  • Follow all program guidelines and emergency procedures of the Gaston County Family YMCA

  • Group Control proficiency is essential in the handling and care of children.  

  • Follow all Staff Code of Conduct rules

  • Plan, implement and teach new games, songs, activities, etc. to the best of your ability

  • Must understand and communicate the YMCA mission in all we do

  • All other duties as assigned directly/indirectly related to the program by the Youth and Family Director. 

    WORKING CONDITIONS: 

    • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

    • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

    • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.

    • Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

    • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

    • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

    • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
