If you are chosen as our candidate, you will be expected to supervise the waterfront at camp--being responsible for the waterfront safety and overall supervision of teaching of YMCA swimming lessons, guarding of free swimming, and the leading of boating (canoeing); The position requires pre-camp training held in June and the position runs for the duration of camp from late June to late August.
In addition to the position requirements, the Waterfront Director must satisfy the following duties;
- Waterfront Management including; safety and equipment
- Lifeguard schedules and discipline
- Maintain waterfront and boathouse cleanliness
- Annual Pre/Post Camp Clean-Up
- Weekend/Family Camp

The Waterfront Director must fulfill all lifeguard duties/expectations which include the following:
- At all times, display: Enthusiasm, acceptance, sensitivity, patience, and self-control.
- Plan and implement daily lessons and free swims.
- Instructors must be in the water for every swim lesson.
- Help plan camp-wide activities.
- Assist other camping staff when needed.
- Attend all staff trainings, meetings, and Family Nights.
- Insure the safety of campers and staff while in the waterfront areas.
- Prepare, maintain, and breakdown the beach/swim areas daily.
- Maintain equipment and property.
- Develop progressive swim programs for all abilities.
- Supervise boating programs.
- Alert Waterfront Director or Camp Director of any dangerous situations.
- Abide by all rules, policies, and procedures established by the Montachusett YMCA in the Staff Handbook, and elsewhere as directed by YMCA Administration – including internet / cell phone policy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
- Represent the YMCA and the community both on and off the clock.
- Set Face-Book, Twitter, Tumbler accounts etc., to Private and refrain from having any internet communication with program participants / staff under the age of 18.
This job description may be amended as needed. In addition, no alcoholic beverages or drugs (nor anyone under the influence of the aforementioned items) are allowed on Camp property at any time. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination of employment.
The Camp Lowe Water Front Director of Montachusett Community Branch YMCA must fulfill the following qualifications in his/her position.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Must have 2 months prior experience in supervisory role at a similar aquatics facility and/or verification in aquatics management/supervision
- Current Lifeguard Training from a nationally recognized organization
- Current CPR Training for the professional rescuer/healthcare provider by a nationally recognized organization
- Must have First Aid Training from a nationally recognized organization
- Water Safety & Swimming Instructor (WSI) from a nationally recognized organization (preferably American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor) which includes;
- Swim instruction for all ages and swim levels
- Basic Water Safety/Rescue Instruction
