Seasonal Camp Waterfront Lifeguard

Job Description

If you are chosen as our candidate, you will be expected to teach YMCA swimming lessons, guard free swimming, and lead boating (canoeing); The position requires pre-camp training held in June and the position runs for the duration of camp from late June to late August. 

Job Type: Summer Seasonal

Shifts: Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm, June 20, 2023-August 18, 2023

Weekend shift availability also. 

Pay: $17.00/hour, Free Individual Membership to all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave.

Qualifications

Current Lifeguard Certification preferred but not required, trainings will be provided to interested applicants.

Experience teaching swimming lessons and working in dark water (ponds/lakes) is a plus.'

 

Essential Functions

The Waterfront Staff will be responsible to the Waterfront Director and Camp Director and will:

  • At all times, display: Enthusiasm, acceptance, sensitivity, patience, and self-control.
  • Plan and implement daily lessons and free swims. Complete lesson plans by the required time.
  • Instructors must be in the water for every swim lesson.
  • Help plan camp-wide activities.
  • Assist other camping staff when needed.
  • Attend all staff trainings, meetings, and Family Nights.
  • Insure the safety of campers and staff while in the waterfront areas.
  • Prepare, maintain, and breakdown the beach/swim areas daily.
  • Maintain equipment and property.
  • Develop progressive swim programs for all abilities.
  • Supervise boating programs.
  • Alert Waterfront Director or Camp Director of any dangerous situations.
  • Abide by all rules, policies, and procedures established by the Montachusett YMCA in the Staff Handbook, and elsewhere as directed by YMCA Administration – including internet / cell phone policy.
  • Represent the YMCA and the community both on and off the clock.
  • Set My-Space and Face-Book accounts etc., to Private and refrain from having any internet communication with program participants / staff under the age of 18.
  • Lifeguards are required to complete 10 LAPS between the time they arrive at camp and the time they leave.
  • Always be on time and in complete uniform.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Waterfront Director or Camp Director.
  • This job description may be amended as needed. In addition, no alcoholic beverages or drugs (nor anyone under the influence of the aforementioned items) are allowed on Camp property at any time. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination of employment.
