The Equestrian Manager is responsible for leading the Camp Minikani Equestrian Center and strategic initiatives to further the mission of Camp Minikani through the planning and delivery of high-quality equestrian programming, fun and appropriate to the participants’ ages and abilities. This position also ensures program quality and provides oversight to the physical operation of the equestrian facilities, horses, and equipment.
High School Diploma, and at least 3 years’ experience in an equestrian field
Must be at least 21 years old.
Have prior experience in leading and communicating program goals, progress and outcomes as well as program planning and promoting.
Experience with youth supervision and working with children ages 7 and older.
CPR PRO/AED/O2/FA and Blood Borne Pathogen and First Responder training within 6 months of hire
SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to four hours).
Ability to lift up to 40lbs. often.
Ability to manage using creativity, initiative, and flexibility to ensure program standards, outcomes and member satisfaction is consistently achieved.
In addition, this position requires the ability to work flexible shifts, year-round, including weekends
Must be proficient in written and oral communication
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Equestrian Manager supervises part-time staff including instructors and barn assistants.
Supervise, train and evaluateEquestrianCenter staff. Ensure that safe horseback riding disciplines are always practiced at the Equestrian Center.
Identify, minimize and eliminate, where possible, any perceived risks that could endanger staff, participants and/or horses. Interpret safety and health standards to program area and follow through with their compliance.
Adhere to all policies and procedures related to safety, conduct rules and other regulations.
Ensure equestrian center is operating within annual budgeted amounts regarding expenses around staffing and supplies and ensure program revenue is aligned with budget.
Manage the physical facilities, equipment and safety and health of horses in the equestrian riding program area including but not limited to setting up riding arena, teaching proper use of equipment, ensuring horses are right for the program, conducting inventory, ordering and moving hay, evaluating horses for health needs and behavior issues, record keeping and submitting orders for equipment and supplies when needed.
Participate as a member of the camp management team to plan, direct, and supervise special eventsand other activities in order to promote Camp Minikani, the Equestrian Center and the mission of the Y.
Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
