Job Description

Executive Director – Wilson Gray YMCA

Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, the Executive Director will be responsible for the leadership and administration of branch development, budget and staff performance evaluation. Duties will include annual support campaign, facility/property, management, board development, staff supervision and strategic planning and program development.

 

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree with minimum of eight (5) years successful YMCA or non-YMCA experience that includes management and supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  2. A proven history of successful leadership in the areas of lay and staff development, program planning and innovation, budget development, management of fiscal control systems, facility/property management, membership development, financial development, strategic planning and community development.
  3. YMCA Directorship strongly encouraged.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  5. A high level of professionalism is a must.
  6. Commitment to character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  7. Strong public relations skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills
  8. Ability to manage a high volume of work.
Essential Functions
  1. Manages the Branch in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Hartford and its Board of Directors with counsel and guidance of the Branch Board of Managers.
  2. Manages the total operating budget of the branch, meeting and exceeding operating net.
  3. Responsible for the quality and safety of the facility and grounds to ensure a bright, clean facility and manicured grounds with well-maintained and functional equipment. Conducts facility rounds and audits including life-safety, mechanical, structural-architectural, electrical equipment, code compliance, furnishings, etc.
  4. In collaboration with VP of Facilities, oversees capital projects and overall master/site plans.
  5.  The Executive Director will provide leadership to new program launches and program development. Continuously updates and improves current programs so we exemplify premier quality services.  Also meets accreditation standards.
  6. Serves as campaign director to the annual support campaign and participates in financial development initiatives of the association.
  7. Staffing: recruits, trains, and recognizes staff.  Also evaluates the performance of employees; counsels them in areas where improvements are needed and continually strives to improve performance level of employees through the continuous improvement process and performance standards.
  8. Provides leadership and motivation to the Branch Board to ensure a successful operation geared toward meeting community service needs.  Plays a significant role in recruiting, training, evaluating, recognizing, and developing a growing cadre of lay leaders to ensure a strong and productive board and committees.
  9. Joins with community networks to develop and provide programs to address community issues.  Collaborates with businesses and institutes in order to further the work of the YMCA.
  10. With COO approval processes and implements initiatives in conjunction with the Association’s strategic plan.
  11. Coordinates and provides leadership to a program cabinet to ensure completion of their yearly objectives.
  12. Promotes and instills the mission/vision throughout the YMCA and the communities it serves.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  14. Ensures that daily care of members is a key priority through supervision of Branch staff
  15. Develop and maintain relationships with diverse community leaders as a basis for financial development and identification/implementation of responsive programs for communities served. Work with social, civic and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate.
