POSITION SUMMARY
This position requires an enthusiastic professional with proven skills in all areas of sports management, facility management, financial management, communication, and supervision. Candidate must be able to nurture a high-performing team of part-time staff, volunteers, contract officials, and organizational partnerships focused on growing the impact of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director of Sport and Recreation is responsible for integrating the policies, procedures, best practices, and standards for high-quality, safe programs determined by the YMCA standards of quality. This position will require a flexible schedule of day, evening, and weekend shifts to align with program needs.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or 5 years of experience preferred.
Experience in supervision, budgeting & program design/management preferred.
Must possess experience working with volunteers.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to communicate and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to exercise discriminating and independent judgment.
Proficient computer skills with experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, program software, and social media preferred.
Completion of all required training within 90 days of hire.
Incumbent must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
Directs, develops, and supervises all youth and adult sports program activities for the Wabash County YMCA in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Recruits, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Ensures the screening process is completed for all program staff and volunteers.
Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, and organizes and schedules program registrations.
Participates in a collaborative effort as a member of the Program Operations Team to determine goals, strategies, and program innovation and improvements for the association.
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Develops and monitors the program budget and fee collection to meet fiscal objectives.
Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in the program. Adjusts to community needs.
Participates in community events, expos, on and off-site open houses, etc. in order to increase awareness of YMCA programs.
Responsible for upholding all staff and participant safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by this department.
Seasonal Operations duties at the YMCA Field of Dreams include but are not limited to, building and grounds preparation/maintenance, program/tournament scheduling, and end-of-season shutdown. Must be able to or willing to learn to operate a variety of machinery to accomplish duties including but not limited to a weed whip, a riding lawn mower, and a utility tractor.
Instructs Youth and Adult classes as needed.
Process check requests and invoices related to program activities in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate inventory records of all equipment.
Inspect and order equipment and supplies as needed within budget parameters.
Leads with customer service as a priority.
Ensures child and adult safety. May assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility.
All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
On-site attendance is required for this position.
Flexible schedule that aligns with programming needs, hours will include day, evening, and weekend availability.
