You will help children gain a sense of wonder for the natural world around them. The Activity Specialists oversee specific activity areas such as waterfront, target sports, outdoor survival skills, experiential arts, and other camp activities.
Physical Demands
Camp life can be physically and emotionally challenging. You will be asked to function at 8200 ft of elevation, in a variety of summer mountain weather ranging from snow to highs in the 90's with potential strong thunderstorms. On an average day you will walk 3-5 miles.

Pay Rate: Starting at $400-450/week dependent on previous Camp Santa Maria or other camp experience or certifications held. This position requires you to live at camp. Room and board are included. Training starts on May 24.

- 18 years old.
- Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Staff Training, WFA, CPR, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens. Lifeguard certification is a plus.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Lifeguard Certification or be willing to get it during staff training.
- Archery Certification or be willing to get it during staff training.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
- Lead program activities with the Cabin Leaders to meet the needs of the camp community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Support camp daily, weekly and seasonally as an engaged member of planning and meeting sessions with the Camp Santa Maria support staff team.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events with the Leadership staff team.
- Live in Cabins with Cabin Leaders if necessary for ratio.
- Models relationship-building skills for campers and staff.
