YMCA Camp Santa Maria is a traditional overnight camp located on 1,000+ beautiful acres near Bailey, Colorado (less 90 min drive from Denver). We are a mid-sized camp providing children ages 6-17 with outdoor adventures, resilience-nurturing experiences, support from a welcoming camp community, new skills and countless moments of fun, silliness and smile-inducing joy. Job Description

YMCA Camp Santa Maria is seeking a handyperson who has the basic skills to help beautify, maintain, repair, clean and bolster our picturesque overnight camp nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains near Grant, CO. You'll be part of a team who supports camp by maintaining a clean, safe and enjoyable environment. From helping in the kitchen to assisting maintenance staff, from setting up a program space to turning off the lights at the end of the evening, you will play a crucial role in keeping camp awesome. Because of the diversity of projects and areas of focus, our Maintenance Staff is expected to be a friendly face, collaborator and champion for our camp, campers, staff and parents. You will be a source of positivity, helping us all create a strong, supportive community at camp. You will have the option to live in camp in Tent Town, Cabin or Staff housing, depending on space and responsibilities.

Our ideal candidate understands the power of teamwork and is eager to work with other members of our staff team throughout the summer. We are looking for camp staffers with an "I've got this" mindset bringing cool-headedness and confidence to tackle the challenges and changes that pop up daily.

Physical Demands

Camp life can be physically and emotionally challenging. You will be asked to function at 8200 ft of elevation, in a variety of summer mountain weather ranging from snow to highs in the 90's with potential strong thunderstorms. On an average day you will walk 3-5 miles.

Pay Rate: $14-16/hour up to 40 hours per week and you have the option to live at camp with room in shared living space and board provided

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a resident camp setting.
  • At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.)
  • CPR, WFA, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Assists in the maintenance of the camp property.
  • Assists in the daily running of camp. This may include washing dishes, setting the dining hall, clean-up after meals, maintaining cleanliness in all areas and performing any maintenance that may be determined by the Y staff or the Dower employees.
  • Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with campers and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Maintains constructive and timely communication with supervisors.
