Job Description

This position will work with high-performance program leaders to develop fast-moving and high result programs with staff delivering big results for program participants. The Sr. Director and direct reports will agree on objectives and methods, then the leader will step into a role that removes obstacles to help the program and staff succeed.  Program satisfaction are key result measurables from all programs and events. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA leaders and programs through development for staff, volunteers, and the community.

Qualifications

1. Minimum age of 21

2. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.

3. Preferred candidates will have a minimum of 2 years in the aquatics field.

4. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification

5. Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications (instructor level preferred)

6. Current Swim Instructor Certification preferred or achieved within 60 days of hire

7. Certified Pool Operator Certification preferred or PA Pesticides for Pools or achieved within 60 days of hire

8. Will be required to have trainer certifications in ASHI CPR, AED, and O2 within 6 months,

9. Ability to maintain all required certifications and the necessary level of physical and mental readiness

10. Superior oral and written communication skills, we prefer face to face interactions with written communication when needed

12. Supervisory experience required, 3+ years preferred, some familiarity with Kanban, self-organizing teams, and interactive planning schedules is helpful.

Essential Functions

Division of Duties:

·         60% supervision and management of Leadership development and support of teams

·         40% supervision and management of Aquatics Department

Priorities

·         Supervision of all aspects of aquatics safety and staff development

·         Accountable for total budget expectations and outcomes of supervised departments

·         Responsible to provide leadership to association staff and help them overcome obstacles

·         Organizes and implements all aquatics, wellness and sports programs through designated teams

 

The Senior Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including:

1. Budget and Financial Performance

·         Responsible for developing and managing assigned budgets to meet fiscal objectives

·         Creates and schedules, or coordinates schedules for rooms, programs and events

2. Program Development and Membership Engagement

·         Directs and supervises all aquatic program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands aquatic and sports programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans

·         Conducts and ensures accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance in adherence with state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations

·         Leads program directors in organizing and implementing programs, and events

·         Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs

3. Team Performance Towards Organizational Goals

·         Recruits, hires, trains, schedules and supervises all aquatic personnel, sports staff and volunteers

·         Hires and trains part-time Aquatic Coordinator and other staff to assist with duties

·         Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals

·         Ensures all staff is trained in emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

·         Performs and adheres to safety, cleanliness

·         Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete

·         Provides strong leadership while expanding current offerings with high quality attaining goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan

· Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

4. Fundraising

·         Actively participates in YMCA fundraising activities and special events

·         Actively maintain and seek new community sponsors for programs and events

·         Participates in a successful annual support campaign showing leadership in staff giving and membership involvement

5. Professional Development

·         Conducts First Aid and CPR training, and other training as assigned

·         Perform all functions as those they supervise and meets qualifications and certifications of Lifeguard and Swim Instructor

6. Abuse Prevention

·         Follows staff screening requirements for abuse risk.

·         Provides staff with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.

·         Provides staff with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.

·         Requires staff to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.

·         Responds quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.

·         Responds seriously and confidently to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.

·         Follows mandated reporting requirements.

·         Communicates to all staff the organization’s commitment to protecting their youth from abuse.

·         Reports essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.

7. General

·         Performs other duties as assigned.
