The Northeast Branch of the YMCA of Greater Louisville is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, Aquatics Program Director responsible for providing high-quality aquatics programming including youth group and private swim lesson programs, Tsunami swim team, Calypso Cove party rentals, family aquatics events, volunteer/staff development and financial development.
• Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in Aquatics and/or recreation preferred
• Current Lifeguarding Certification, which includes First Aid, CPR professional level, and Emergency Oxygen Administration (Provided by YMCA)
• Experience working with children and adults
• Experience supervising and training adults
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification (provided by YMCA)
• YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred (provided by YMCA)
• Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children. Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.
• Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
• Establish strategic direction/vision for aquactics programming to include the growth of adult and youth aquatic programs.
• Recruits, hires, trains and supervises all swim instructor staff (approx. 30 part-time) and swim team coaches (approx. 5 part-time)
• Oversees development and delivery of quality aquatics programs including swim lessons (approx. 200 total participants per session), Tsunami swim team (approx. 130 participants), membership special events (Easter Egg Pool Hunt, Member Appreciation Swim events, etc)
• Develop, manage and monitor department budget of approximately $100,000 revenue and $35,000 in expenses.
• Maintains records and prepares reports regarding programs and operations as needed; ensures compliance with all state and county regulations
• Ensures excellent customer/member service and meet Association standards
• Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign
• Participates in branch volunteer committees and advisory board. Develop promotions that recruit and develop aquatic participants
• Participates and provides leadership in the Association Aquatics cabinet to ensure consistency and quality in aquatic programs and facilities
• Establish vision and systems that ensure safety across all aquatic endeavors; lead collaboratively to provide systems that achieve sanitary conditions, safe environments, program excellence, and member service excellence

Participants will encounter staff and programs that will allow the development of human potential and build good health and promote positive self-esteem and safety. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
• Must be able to remain alert.
• Tolerate heat and humidity for extended periods of time
• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
• Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
• Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
• Employees must wear a proper facial mask/covering at all times while inside any YMCA facility. Masks are not required when working outdoors.
