Wellness Coordinator

The Salem Family YMCA is seeking a cause-driven leader to join our Wellness team!
Job Description

Under the guidance from the Wellness Director, the Wellness Coordinator is

responsible for programming, promotion, supervision, and evaluation of

Group Exercise offerings and Instructors.


 Certified as a Group Exercise Instructor.

 Ability to lead small group exercise programs.

 Must have at least a high school diploma/some college preferred.

 Must be able to interact appropriately and professionally with members

as well as YMCA staff and YMCA community partners.

 Must be able to follow instructions regarding policies and procedures of

the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.

 Must be willing to function as part of the team and able to

communicate effectively with staff, program participants, members,

and vendors in a variety of situations.

 Must be willing to learn new skills both on and off the computer and

should enjoy varied assignments and multitasking.

 Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

 Must be dependable, mature, responsible, have the ability to use good


Essential Functions

1. Responsible for overseeing all Group Exercise programs.

2. Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and supervising Group

Exercise Instructors.

3. Assist the Director in planning and implementing health and wellness

programs and initiatives.

4. Attend regular scheduled Management Team meetings.

5. Attend appropriate and required trainings.

6. Assist Director with maintenance of staff records in accordance with

any and all regulatory agencies and the YMCA.

7. Assist as needed in completing payroll on a weekly basis for the

Wellness Department.

8. Promote the “YMCA Story” with all involved in the program. 

9. Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas,

YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment.

10. Maintain equipment cleanliness, maintenance log,

troubleshooting broken equipment, and dispatching a vendor to fix if


11. Follow accident reporting procedures and policies.

12. Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk

management and safety of participants and staff.

13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.



 Required skills in all Microsoft Office and Excel applications and other

software required and on-the-job training will be provided as needed.

 Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

 Must be flexible with changes in tasks required.

 Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
