Under the supervision and guidance of the Child Care Director, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the guidance and safety of all the children in the summer camp program.
The Summer Camp Counselor will be role models and ensure campers are engaging in activities designed to promote a healthy spirit, mind and body while learning valuable lessons, building lasting friendships and creating memories that will last a lifetime!
Junior or Traditional Day Camps within our Child Care Services Branch are camps where every camper is provided with the tools to be the best they can be in a safe, fun and welcoming environment for all!
The ability to be a strong role model and an excellent communicator.
Must have excellent decision-making skills.
Must have a positive attitude, enthusiasm and be able to work as part of a team.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Previous experience working with children in a day or resident camp setting, childcare or related setting.
Be able to demonstrate skills in motivating, games, athletics, crafts, songs, storytelling.
Must have current CPR and First Aid - we'll help you secure this!
Ensure the safety of all campers in your care and that all health guidelines are followed.
Supervise and engage with groups of children in a fun but professional manner, having knowledge of where all campers are at all times.
Plan, organize and lead daily camp activities.
Create a positive experience for all campers.
Maintain the appropriate staff-to-camper ratio.
Responsible for the maintenance of equipment/supplies, and cleanliness of campsite.
Communicate with Camp Coordinator regarding group activities, bringing any concerns to Coordinator's attention immediately.
Accurately report all incidents or accidents immediately.
Attend all trainings and meetings are required by Director and/or YMCA leadership.
