Job Description

Would you like to change lives by providing an amazing experience for every camper? At Camp Seymour you get to teach kids self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership – all amidst the fun of camp fires, canoeing, archery, talent shows, and meaningful relationships.

If hired as the Assistant Camp Director, you will live and work at Camp, supervising supporting, and mentoring program staff, Resident Camp staff and campers.  You will actively supervise and maintain safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate programs and events.  Work with leadership staff and the Summer Program Director to organize and implement the overall camp program.

You will spend your days outside laughing, talking, and participating in camp activities.  By the end of the summer you will be the adult role model who encourages creativity, instills confidence, self-esteem, a life of adventure, and a sense of belonging. 

In this position you will be able to use your skills to:

Build Relationships:

Directly supervise program area specialists; including coaching, teaching, modeling, reinforcing, assisting with difficult situations and correcting behavior. 

Support and supervise resident camp staff and leaders delivering camp programs.

Assist with check in and check out. You are an integral part of the parent communication team.

Make great decisions:

Manage announcements and opening and closing for daily programs.

Assist in the planning, organization, and facilitation of Theme Days; incorporate staff ideas, create & distribute schedules, Program Areas and the Kitchen as appropriate.

Provide quality results:

Plan, coordinate delivery, support staff in, and ensure quality of program activity delivery.

Coordinate delivery, model, and ensure quality of camp activities including Camptivities, Theme Days, and other all-camp events.

Be a role model and teach values:

Participate 100% with activities; enjoy playing, and not "sit on the sidelines", being visible throughout the day, leading transition times and supervising campers.

Train, motivate, support, share insights and ideas with, and supervise staff guards and instructors; support and connect with campers; behave as an appropriate positive role model in all camp activities. 

Starting Wage: $450+ per week, depending on qualifications

Date of Employment: January - August 25, 2023 (dates are approximate)

*This is a Residential position that includes room and board.*

Qualifications

Are you a good fit?

  • You are committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • You are at least 21 years old.
  • You have worked at a camp for at least two seasons.
  • You have specialized and practical knowledge of/experience in: cabin and camp leadership, teen leadership and supervision; staff management, development, and motivation.
  • You have integrity, patience, adaptability, a sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a commitment to serve youth. 
  • You have current First Aid, CPR and Lifeguarding. (strongly preferred)
