Job Description

YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps are comprised of Camp Hayo-Went-Ha on Torch Lake and Camp Arbutus Hayo-Went-Ha on Arbutus Lake. Combined, the camps comprise more than 650 acres of property and contain more than 80 buildings. They are located approximately 40 miles apart from each other. The Maintenance Director will oversee the care of facilities and property at both camps. Working closely with the Property Manager at each camp (a full-time position at Torch Lake and – currently – a part-time position at Arbutus Lake) the Maintenance Director will ensure that the buildings, grounds and vehicles are clean, cared for and maintained appropriately. 

The position is intended to be hands-on, with the Maintenance Director expected to take on frontline tasks such as repairs, landscaping and general facility upkeep. The Director will also have primary contact with outside vendors/contractors and (some) regulatory entities. Administrative duties include budget management, ordering supplies, managing regulatory compliance, payroll and recordkeeping. 

The position will require regular travel between the two camps (primarily in a camp-provided truck). Most likely the Maintenance Director will be officed at the Torch Lake site (919 N. East Torch Lake Drive, Central Lake, MI 49622). 

This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position that will require some weekend work at times during the year.

Qualifications
  • Five or more years of related experience
  • Contractor’s license preferred
  • CDL Bus Driver License preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and skill in multiple building trades.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals and other documents.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum high school graduate; two years of college or trade school or apprenticeship preferred
  • Basic computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office and/or Google Docs 
  • Must enjoy working with people
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Successfully pass all background checks and clearances
Essential Functions
  • Coordinate and lead all camp construction and renovation projects.
  • Maintain project schedules, timelines and budgets.
  • Communicate with and manage all subcontractors and vendors. Order supplies as needed.
  • Manage all permitting and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Provide direct supervision to the Property Manager at each camp.
  • Oversee housekeeping activities at both camps.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance at both camps.
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of all camp vehicles and trailers.
  • Organize and provide leadership to volunteer work weekends
  • Ensure that camp facilities and property are safe and that potential risks are managed and minimized.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required.
  • Effectively manage the maintenance budget.
  • Prepare reports as needed for staff and volunteers
  • Communicate effectively with all staff – especially the camp directors.
