Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Responsible for the overall management of aquatics programs, services and events, including all aspects of supervision, planning, development, budget, evaluation and customer service.  Perform effectively as a self-motivated, proactive and effective team member while exercising professional judgment and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

KNOW-HOW REQUIRED:

A minimum of two years experience with an associate’s degree in related field or equivalent.  CPR, First Aid, AED and Lifeguard trainer level certifications required.  Experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements. A bachelor’s degree in related field, and YMCA Director certification preferred.  Must possess exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational, creative, multi-tasking and analytic skills. Cash-handling and basic math skills required.  Must be able to direct and lead a variety of aquatics programs, events or services for up to 6 hours without a break.  Ability to move easily and freely throughout the 40,000 sq. ft. facility.  Must have basic knowledge of computers and software as well as physical ability to operate a keyboard and office machinery.  Must be able to identify, react and respond appropriately to safety issues and emergencies. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Essential Functions

JOB DIMENSIONS:

  • Oversee all aquatics programs, events, procedures, and facilities/areas.
  • Determine program quality and effectiveness through surveys and evaluations.
  • Improve current programs through feedback and develop new ones. 
  • Quantify and document program participation, Strong Kids scholarships and evaluation results.
  • Supervise/administer all staff/volunteers working with aquatics programs, services and events. 
  • Develop and implement department training plan to ensure the highest level of quality customer service possible.
  • Coordinate cross-marketing, advertising and publicity efforts for all aquatics programs, services and events with Marketing Director.
  • Implement and maintain effective communication systems to ensure consistent delivery of high quality customer service. 
  • Be accessible, visible and interactive with staff and members on a daily basis. 
  • Develop and administer departmental budget to achieve operating goals.
  • Ensure that program payments, refunds and credits are handled according to policy
  • and in a timely manner.
  • Participate annually as a Strong Kids Campaign team member and achieve goal.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and YMCA of Marquette County safety standards and guidelines to manage risk and enhance safety.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff and committee meetings on a regular basis.
  • Perform Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities as assigned.
  • Engage in professional growth activities to improve knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Compliance with all association and department policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that facility areas of responsibility are neat, clean, and well-organized.
  • All other duties as assigned.
