Job Description

The Director of Annual Giving will be an active contributor to the fundraising efforts for the YMCA of Greater Cleveland association and operating branches. This important position supports the financial development, community engagement, and strategic initiatives supporting the organization. The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the annual giving program and in guiding and supporting branch-specific annual giving strategy, implementation, and activity. The position reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO). 

Qualifications

Education 

•Bachelor’s degree required. 

Experience

•Minimum of 5 years’ experience in development, community relations, or related field.

•Experience with events management preferred. 

Technical Skills and Knowledge

•Must have a proven track record in raising annual support.

•Excellent and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills required.

•Proven success and experience in problem solving and collaboration, especially with staff leadership and volunteers in achieving the philanthropic goals of the organization.

•Must have a demonstrated/proven ability to work effectively with business and community leaders, volunteers, and senior leadership.

•Be actively and visibly involved with members, volunteers, and staff in a positive, friendly manner that communicates and demonstrates the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. 

•Participate in and support association events and fundraising activities. 

•Follow all established policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety practices and personnel policies. 

•Proficiency with donor CRM software desired.

•Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

Essential Functions

Support the association’s financial development plan and strategies to advance a culture of philanthropy among constituents, volunteers, and staff. 

•Develop and lead the strategic and operational annual giving plan for the association – including personal asks, direct mail, event outreach, and digital solicitation.

•Lead planning process with CPO and branch leadership to establish annual giving strategy and goals for each branch.

•Manage the day-to-day operation of the annual giving program to ensure proper gift entry, reconciliation, and stewardship of all unrestricted gifts. 

•In collaboration with Philanthropy Team, manage a comprehensive portfolio of annual giving prospects for branch leadership and volunteers, utilizing a moves management system for increased engagement and organizational support. 

•Provide fundraising training and coaching to YMCA staff and volunteers, specifically focused on annual giving support.

•Collaborate with Marketing Department and branch leadership to develop strategies to successfully promote fundraising efforts in each branch.

•Plan and execute fundraising events as directed, both branch-specific activities and association-wide events.

•Identify and cultivate organizations and corporations in the community to partner with the YMCA mission through philanthropic support and volunteer activities.

•Implement community outreach strategies to increase public awareness of YMCA philanthropic efforts in the community; build relationships with key stakeholders and generate philanthropic partnership and opportunities.

•Work with the Philanthropy and Marketing teams to ensure that the YMCA is being positioned as indispensable within the community.    

•Represent the YMCA of Greater Cleveland, its board, and executives to donors, volunteers, community members, staff, and other YMCA professionals with a positive, professional image.
