Job Description

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Assistant Aquatics Director’s responsibilities will include supervision of 25+ part-time lifeguards, safety, training and managing the aquatics center. Must be able to professionally explain and enforce rules and policies to members, participants and staff. Works with the Aquatics Director to grow and improve aquatics programming. Develops relationships with members and participants by encouraging the use of aquatics programs to promote health and wellness.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred related field
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • 3 years minimum  of recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
  • Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules.
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, and Blood Born Pathogen certification.
  • CPO, LGI certification
  • Knowledge of computers and associated skills.
Essential Functions
  1. Develops, implements, and oversees aquatics programs such as, but not limited to Parent & Child Swim Lessons, Adult Lessons, Family Swim Programs, Pre-School Lessons and Pool Parties that reflect community needs and maintain the YMCA's high standards of quality, safety and caring.
  2. Assists with managing and achieving budget.
  3. Ensures that pools meet all health and safety standards including a clean environment, appropriate air and water temperature, chemical balance, and timely pool water testing. Secures pool facilities when not in use. Advises supervisor and Director of Maintenance of any repair needs and concerns immediately. Assists with maintenance of all aquatics areas.
  4. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates aquatics staff as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow.
  5. Ensures that all staff have appropriate and updated certifications.
  6. Maintains a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
  7. Teaches and supervises aquatics classes and lifeguards on a regular basis. Fills in for any open guards shifts.
  8. Performs most administrative functions for the aquatics department.
  9. Assists with the planning and attends most special events such as Healthy Kids' Day, YMCA hosted swim meets, and other various celebrations.
  10. Attends required abuse risk management training, follows mandated abuse reporting and adheres to job  specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
