Job Description

An incentive compensation plan is available for this role and will be based on demonstrated results.  

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Establishes a culture of giving and provides strategic leadership in all facets of financial development. Leads and executes a revenue portfolio driven by relationship building, executes donor pipeline, constructs annual campaign focused on major gift levels, grants, and special event activities to ensure goal achievement that demonstrates collective impact at the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field.
  • Five or more years of professional experience with a background in fund raising in the YMCA or non-profit sector preferred.
  • Proven success in the areas of annual campaign, major gifts, grant writing, special events. Capital campaign and endowment planning experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in preparing and executing annual board engagement, volunteer development plan and annual budget.
  • Ability to effectively secure campaign solicitation and establish key donor relations.
  • Successful foundation and grant writing accomplishments.
  • Capacity to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proficiency in leading teams to accomplish strategic goals and desired outcomes.
  • A deep working knowledge of giving and charitable strategies.
  • Skill to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
  • Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and relationship building skills.  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, build trust and influence others.
  • A professional personal image and the knack to work harmoniously with staff, members, board, donors, and the business community are imperative.
  • Displayed commitment to the mission and purpose of the YMCA.
  • Must have the ability to travel to various worksites during the business day.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment and at various locations.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and transport materials to and from meetings. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
Essential Functions
  • Establishes a culture of giving and leads all facets of fundraising campaigns and strategies. Leads Annual Campaign, major gifts, grants, and special events. Directs in conjunction with CEO/VP level capital development and endowment programs.
  • Recruit, train and engage campaign leadership at staff and volunteer levels across the association.
  • Serves as primary staff to the Financial Development Committee and other assigned committees of the staff and Board of Directors. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.
  • Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. Maintains database resource file on top community leaders.
  • Drives grants from government sources and private foundations and works with finance and program departments on tracking and reporting of grant outcomes and regulations.
  • Develops systems and manages resources needed to carry out the fundraising plans. Establishes and monitors the financial development department budget for the YMCA.
  • Develops appropriate fundraising strategies, policies, and procedures for the association.
  • Tracks all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides reports as needed.
  • Provides training in fund raising.  Educates, motivates, and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
  • Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.  Works closely with marketing department to produce marketing and communication plan, annual reports, newsletters, campaign brochures and other related materials.
  • Represents the association as required by the CEO/VP level.
