Job Description

Under the direction of the CEO, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the safe development, management and supervision of the aquatic center, and any assignment of tasks related to the daily operation of the center in accordance with the mission and policies set forth by the Association. This position is responsible for assuring a safe, quality experience for all members, program participants and guests, including creating a positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and adheres to strong safety practices in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This position will also lead a team to build positive relationships with members and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills and creatively finds ways to connect them to one another and the Y community.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with aquatic experience and required certifications.
  • At least 1 year of related work experience
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Designs and implements new programs, community swim initiatives, etc. as needed.
  • Model and instill the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and have the ability to serve and develop meaningful relationships with members, volunteers, donors and others. 
Essential Functions

The Aquatics Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA programs and performs the

following functions:

  • Creates and schedules swim lessons program for youth and adults, water fitness classes and lifeguard training classes.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Holds staff accountable for high quality results. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Ensures a high level of service with the commitment to improving lives.
  • Builds relationships to create small communities.
  • Maintains accurate records of staff certifications.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.
  • Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  • Effectively creates and manages budgets.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities. Makes necessary purchases.
  • Coordinates and schedules pool maintenance and repairs.

Required Certifications
  • Current Certifications in professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
  • Current YMCA lifeguard, lifeguard instructor, and swim instructor certifications
