Job Description

This position supports the work of the Woodson YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility by providing excellent member experiences. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Group Exercise Certification(s)
  • Requirements within 30 days of hire include: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Programs include: Group Exercise Classes (land and water), Disease Prevention Programs, Strength Training, Fitness Classes, Personal Training, Fit Start, and Special Events.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs highly qualified and energetic staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance to ensure best practices.
  • Responsible for supervision and development of association group exercise programming. Provide energizing, fun, safe and educational group classes that align with the healthy living goals and objectives.
  • Supervision and development of association personal training programming.  
  • Establishes and expands program activities within the community in accordance with strategic plan.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information—Organizes and schedules program registrations.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities by administering/assisting “Pedal It Forward”, “Thanksgiving Turkey Jam”, and any future events.
  • Attends corporate Health Fairs.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. Responsible to provide high-quality tours based on the weekly tour coverage schedule.
  • Contributes/attends committee meetings to achieve the goal of consistency between the two branches.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and complies statistics of programs to verify their effectiveness and participation levels.
  • Maintains cleanliness and operations of all strength training equipment, cardio equipment, and health & wellness program areas.
  • Keeps inventory, evaluates equipment condition, orders replacement parts, and orders new equipment to keep equipment in excellent condition for member use.
  • Ensures the Member Services desk receives communication in a timely matter regarding canceled classes, program changes, etc. All group exercise schedules should be finalized and distributed to staff and members no later than a week prior to the session change or the modified holiday week.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
