Job Description

The Engagement & Referral Specialist will provide quality on-site engagement and relationship-building with community members at YMCA Community Connection Hubs. This position will share knowledge of existing resources and facilitate connections to services and supports based on community needs and interests.   • Minimum two years of experience in youth/family engagement via social work, social service, case management, resource navigation, family strengthening and support, mental health, or other human service delivery
  • Knowledge of local community resources
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family strengthening and support/resource navigation approaches
  • Bilingual required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain responsive relationships with community members, community leaders, partners, and others
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Strong customer service skills, sensitivity to at risk populations, and cultural competency
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to facilitate/present in large groups
  • Conflict resolution skills, and ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be self-aware, flexible, adaptable, and teachable
  • Licensing, state law and our funders require that applicants of critical positions within Community Support Services be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
  • CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute 
Essential Functions
  • Provide onsite engagement for community members in alignment with service delivery best practices (relationally responsive, strengths-based, person centered, culturally and linguistically responsive, etc.)
  • Conduct intake/ assessment tools, collaborative case planning, resource, and referral navigation and ongoing follow up with community members and maintain relationships
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with partners; attend partner meetings, external presentations, support partner collaborative efforts, special projects and more
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate community engagement activities including events, listening, and learning sessions, cafés, community advisory groups, etc.
  • Conduct data collection related to all hub activities in alignment with hub evaluation plan
  • Work with marketing teams to support ongoing communications and develop collateral related to hub efforts
  • Participate in cross-functional and cross-departmental teams to implement hub model implementation
  • Collect ongoing hub related feedback from community members and community partners
  • Develop expertise knowledge of the different social service systems including eligibility requirements, services offered, and the application process
  • Maintain working knowledge of internal resources and branch memberships, programs, and offerings
