Job Description

The YMCA of Greenwich is seeking a motivated, cause-driven Vice President (VP) of Operations to ensure operational effectiveness and fiscal success of our association. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Operations will articulate and influence the importance of membership and program growth with the objective of maximizing expansion and profitability. The Vice President of Operations will provide strategic leadership and supervision of membership, aquatics, wellness, summer camp, youth and family programs and facilities. They will be an organized strategic thinker with management skills, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to work with others in a supportive and collaborative role. This position will be directly responsible for the oversight of risk management for the association.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, business, social services or equivalent with five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Preferred Qualifications: YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership growth practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and financial practices.
  • Experience in growing membership and program revenue; building strong volunteer and staff teams; collaborating with strategic funding partners.
  • Proven success in managing budgets and fiscal resources of $2.5M or greater.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Record of accomplishment of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • Outstanding and effective communications skills (both oral and written).
  • Proven track record of driving quality results in a dynamic and multi-faceted organization.
  • Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics.
  • Innate ability to develop and motivate staff by setting example, coaching, and mentoring them.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a plus.
Essential Functions

Operations and Finance

Collaborate with the CEO in setting and driving organizational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs.

Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement organization-wide goal setting, operational performance management, and annual operating planning.

Ensure the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, and collaborations.

Evaluates current systems and procedures for operations management addressing deficiencies when necessary and implementing new procedures where needed.

Assist Y leadership and staff in evaluating effectiveness of membership, program services and offerings.

Provide oversight, reviews, and holds Y leadership accountable to critical branch metrics such as financial performance (meeting revenue goals/monitoring of expenses), member engagement/retention, and continuous quality improvement.

Oversee the preparation of the annual budgets with Y leadership and monitor monthly financial reports to assure revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.

Staff Management / Development

Recruit, interview, train, supervise and evaluate direct reports.

Establish high-performance sales and retention goals and standards, set realistic work objectives/standards for leadership and staff.

Provide leadership and direction to directors, managers, and staff on daily operations.

Implements Association personnel policies and procedures.

Provide assistance and support in the creation of a healthy and highly inclusive culture within the Association, which fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and ensures team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met.

 Membership / Program Services

Provides strong leadership in developing and implementing major membership strategies through a thorough understanding of the value of YMCA membership and the ability to grow/retain members.

Develops and directs high quality member recruitment and engagement, which support the Associations’ mission, goals and strategic plan.

Fosters a climate of innovation, encouraging the development of new family-focused programs and supports branch staff in the planning, development, and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.

Overall responsibility for creating and maintaining programs to increase member enrollment and generate increased program revenue.

Monitor program quality and recommend/implement growth strategies.

Maintains ongoing evaluation of current services, recommends changes, and needs for new services.

 Additional Responsibilities

Identify, establish, and maintain strategic links with businesses, organizations, local government agencies, groups and individuals within the community whose influence, support and/or assistance could be of value to the operations of the Association.

Interpret and communicate the objectives, programs, and long-range vision of the Association to the community.

Overall responsibility for the Y’s risk management and safety practices.

Troubleshoot/resolve member issues in a professional manner. Establish relationships with potential /existing members/program participants.

Ensures proper maintenance, cleanliness, and structural integrity of the Y and provides direction and assistance as necessary to the facility manager.

Implement a comprehensive Volunteer program within the branch.

Provides reports to committees, the Board of Directors, CEO, and other key YMCA leadership as needed.

Represent the CEO in the community as needed.

Other related duties as assigned.
