This position fosters a member-focused culture and models relationship building skills in all interactions. The ideal candidate should possess the leadership skills necessary to successfully communicate and engage with co-workers, members, associates, volunteers, donors and the general public. Preferred candidate should have a proven track record in staff development, budget accountability, membership sales, community involvement, member-centered customer service and fundraising. The YMCA of Greater Louisville is a vibrant, YMCA North American Network (YNAN) member, known to be mission-oriented and cause driven organization. Improving the health and wellness of the community we serve and relationship building among members are high priorities.


 Bachelor’s Degree from Accredited College/University.

 Minimum five years’ experience in management position – Nonprofit experience preferred.

 Experience in managing budget of $6 million or more.

 Track record of providing high level of constituent experience as demonstrated by metrics reflecting growth, impact, and satisfaction.

 Strong speaking and writing skills.

 Track record of recruiting, inspiring and leading a high-performing team.

 High emotional intelligence.

 Varied skills in program services delivery, membership systems, facility management, volunteer development and fundraising.

Essential Functions


The person serving in this position will provide leadership to the Northeast Family YMCA. It is state of the art YMCA serving in a community that embraces the YMCA and is the largest membership base, while having the highest participation levels in the YMCA of Greater Louisville Association. It is known for its extremely caring, friendly and knowledgeable staff, strong Board of Advisors, and successful programs. The Branch has consistently met and exceeded its financial and membership targets.

Depending on the qualifications of the candidate selected, there may also be potential for additional Association level responsibilities.

One of the most unique features of the Northeast YMCA is a large outdoor water park with multiple features for persons of all ages.


 Serve as a role model and advocate of the YMCA Mission, Promise, Values and Personality. Demonstrates support for the Association and its Strategic Vision.

 Lead the continued development of the branch board and annual fundraising campaign.

 Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses and governmental entities.

 Build and utilize a continuous community feedback loop to develop and innovate YMCA programs and services including membership/healthy living programs, aquatic programming, summer day camp and others.

 Provides leadership in the areas of day to day operations of the branch.

 Communicates across departments to provide a member focused experience that results in increased member retention.

 Recruit, hire, train, develop and direct staff teams under your supervision. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

 Develop, manage and monitor assigned operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Recommend adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submit reports on current operations.

 Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual's goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.

 Ensure the safety, attractive appearance, and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds and equipment.

 Oversee branch marketing and communication to maintain highly integrated services to the community.


 Total budget responsibility will be $6.5 to $8 million.

 Membership development goal: 4,400 to 5,500 units/households (prior to 2020 the branch average 5,500 units).

 Summer camp program serving 180+ youth, and swim lesson program generating $6-$10K/month in revenue.

 Staff development responsibilities will include 6-8 exempt, 1-4 hourly full time and 80-120 part time staff.

 Annual Campaign goals will total $155,000 (with a future expectation to return to $225K annually).
