Job Description

The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) is seeking a tech-centric, emoji-wielding, content-creating, code-writing, creatively innovative, analytical-thinking digital superhero to help take our marketing efforts to the next level. 

The Digital Marketing Specialist will execute compelling and high quality multichannel digital marketing efforts and initiatives for our website, social media, email communications, digital ads, local media outlets, display media, mobile app and more, in accordance with brand guidelines to advance the Y’s mission and cause, increase brand awareness, revenue, member acquisition and retention. We're talking Facebook, Instagram, Google, HubSpot, YouTube, JotForm, TikTok, and the likes. 

It's an artistic technophile's dream come true. However, the Y is not a hip, new startup with cold brew on tap, and our ideal candidate is certainly not your average digital marketer. We are looking for someone to use their powers and harness your marketing skills, social media experience and data-mindedness for good to help one of our area's largest nonprofits (that’s us!) inform, engage, and uplift members, program participants, donors, and connect our community with all the things that make the Summit Area YMCA so great.

You might be the right candidate if:

  • You are a creative, inquisitive, and strategic thinker with the desire to innovate and the ability to articulate a future vision for any brand in the digital space. 
  • You love social media, but it's not just fun and gifs for you. It's about strategy, engagement and connecting the right content to the right people at the right time. 
  • You have experience being an administrator for multiple business pages and know your way around the backend of a website. 
  • You are innovative, resourceful and understand how to create content that tells a story, aligns with the brand, and connects with audiences.
  • You are an experienced email designer and understand strategies for creating and optimizing emails that delight and compel. 
  • You are all-around tech-savvy and highly articulate about marketing technology. You know the difference between CPM, CTR, SEM and PPC and when it benefits a team to use a Google Sheet vs. Excel.
  • You may not be an HTML expert or a SEO pro, but you have a basic understanding of coding and SEO strategy and a foundation of knowledge on which you are ready and eager to build in order to communicate with web developers and translate techy concepts and strategies for non-marketing people.
  • You can create high-performing ad campaigns (mainly Google & Facebook), know the value of target audiences and what to look for in terms of performance and budget optimization to generate conversions and revenue. 
  • You understand the importance of data and can learn various analytics platforms and translate numbers into action items. Bonus points if you have experience working with Google Analytics, social media analytics, Power BI or other data visualization tools.
  • You play nice with others and IRL you are an eager team player who can communicate and work with a diverse array of individuals and groups. 
  • You understand the importance of representing a people-centric, family friendly brand online, as this position will respond to online reviews, answer DMs, and reply to comments, which means it's the ultimate customer service job (yes, even the trolls need good customer service). Our ideal candidate understands the importance of this role and takes it seriously. 
  • You like to stay current in marketing trends and news e.g. Google updates and changes in social media algorithms
Qualifications
  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a marketing, communications, design, interactive media or related field or equivalent years of professional experience in digital marketing or advertising.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in digital marketing and advertising, developing content, campaigns and strategy for web, social media, email, and other digital platforms. Agency experience a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication and storytelling skills. 
  • Can translate ideas into finished projects with minimal direction.
  • Extremely tech-savvy and can quickly learn new software/applications.
  • Advanced in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver)
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and Google application skills. 
  • Excellent photography/videography and editing skills. 
  • Adept in data management and analytics. Understands the importance of data and can learn various analytics platforms and translate the data into action items.
  • Highly organized with the ability to self-direct, work independently on assigned tasks, multi-task and manage several projects at once.
  • Able to independently travel between the Summit Area YMCA branches.
Essential Functions
  • Designs and implements integrated digital campaigns for multiple platforms that may include, but is not limited to, video, email, social, blogs, web, and display media.
  • Understands the strategy behind a project/task, is open to the ideas of others and translates ideas into finished products with minimal direction.
  • Provides collaborative support to the marketing team and other stakeholders or Y staff to brainstorm, conceptualize, create, and fulfill needs that help advance the Y’s mission, increase brand awareness, revenue, and member acquisition.
  • Responsible for the Y’s websites and mobile application which includes but is not limited to, content accuracy, adding new content, updating CRM data, improving search methods, enhancing user experience, removing outdated information, updating URLs, navigation menus, SEO, images, aesthetics and resolving website related issues (errors, quality, functionality, etc.)
  • Manages content and engagement on our social media channels and digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Google My Business, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Yelp, etc. Monitors and responds to reviews, questions, comments, DMs, etc.
  • Takes photos and videos of Y programs, people and events as needed for use in marketing materials.
  • Edits photos and produces meaningful testimonials and impact story videos from Y members and program participants for use in our website, digital channels, emails, advertisements, special events, fundraising, etc.
  • Creates and optimizes membership, program, development, association and event email and digital communications. Maintain up to date email and contact lists.
  • Utilizes and monitors digital analytics tools for the website, CRM, social media, email, digital advertising etc. and uses the data to create reports and make informed business decisions.
  • Acts as software/technology liaison by evaluating, implementing and administering new technologies, add-on applications, integrated software and automated processes to optimize business operations. Provides related software administration, training and troubleshooting for staff and members.
  • Contributes marketing efforts and brand strategy recommendations to assist with long-term objectives that align with the SAY’s overall strategic goals for growth, sustainability, innovation, and success.

Required Certifications

Salary & Benefits:

The Digital Marketing Specialist reports to the Director of Marketing & Digital Operations. Salary range for this role is $21-$24/hr. This position is full-time (40 hours a week), on-site in Summit, NJ with potential remote flex options for the right candidate.
