Job Description

Serving over 20,000 active youth, adult, and family members, the West Branch of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA helps members lead a healthier, happier life. Facility amenities and features include six fitness studios, three racquetball courts, full-court basketball gym, youth activity center, climbing wall, 50-meter swimming pool, and training pool. 

The Director of Aquatics is responsible for administering the total operation of the department within Branch and Association parameters, overseeing the safe management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, and financial development within the department.

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation or sports management, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of experience in related field
  • Background must include strong skills in human relations, budgeting and fiscal management, financial development, health and well-being management, and staff and volunteer management.
  • Must be able to meet YMCA transportation requirements
  • Current Lifeguard Certification and Water Safety Instructor within 60 days
  • Preferred qualifications include Lifeguard Instructor or Trainer, CPR for Professional Rescuer Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Water Fitness Instructor or Trainer, First Aid Instructor, CPR Instructor, O2 Instructor and/or knowledge of competitive aquatic programming.
Essential Functions
  • Work closely with Aquatics staff to ensure program area operations are consistent with approved Leading Practices.
  • Supervise Aquatics staff, including hiring, onboarding, role-modeling, coaching, scheduling, certification management, and on-going development.
  • Expand existing programs and establish new programs and activities in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develop and ensure that Lifeguards are trained and ready to serve as First Responders for assigned areas.
  • Respond to member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of programming to ensure budget, quality and safety expectations are met.
  • Evaluate and track financial assistance.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications team to market and distribute program information.
