Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Waynesboro Family YMCA is seeking an energetic, hands-on professional with background in Aquatics Management to fill the position of Aquatics Director. The Aquatics Director will  provide leadership, instruction and motivation for aquatics staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, as well as provide swim instruction and lifeguarding as necessary. They will create a safe and positive atmosphere which promotes member safety, engagement and satisfaction.

Qualifications

CPR, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, and other certfications as needed.  CPO required or commitment to get CPO in first 3 months of hire.

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform activities which require sustained concentration and attention.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
Essential Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Coordinate and supervises aquatic program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Ensure program quality and assist in monitoring staff performance and member service.
  2. Develop relationships with members and obtain regular feedback on programs.
  3. Ability to fill in as lifeguard, water safety instructor, and aquatics instructor.
  4. Partners with outside groups to provide programming support in our pool.   Develop initiatives to expand aquatic programming. 
  5. Ensures records of staff certifications are up-to-date and complete.
  6. Supervise and manage the delivery of aquatics programs, instructions and staff trainings including training lifeguards and swim instructors.
  7. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  8. Maintains pool logs, pool updates, and incident reports.   Oversee chemical management of the Y pool. 
  9. Manage aquatics program/lesson scheduling; respond to inquiries about Aquatics Department and other regular administrative tasks.
  10. Serve on Facilities Committee to make recommendations related to maintenance of our current pool and creation of a new warm water pool
  11. Oversee pool operations both onsite and offsite.
  12. Manage multiple staff at multiple locations and delegate tasks to Aquatics Coordinator and staff leaders.
Required Certifications

Requirements:

1. Five years related experience and aquatics background preferred.

2. Must be at least 21 years of age.

3. Maintain current certifications in: - Current American Red Cross CPR, AED and First-Aid Certifications - Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification (preferred) - Current Swim Instructor Trainer Certification (preferred)

4. Possess mature judgment and sound decision-making.

5. Demonstrates the ability to work independently and proactively in a leadership role with little supervision or instruction.

6. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, and has the ability to work well with members, staff and volunteers.

7. Demonstrates constant and clear communication in a reasonable amount of time between Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Staff, and participants.

8. Possesses organizational skills, prioritizing abilities, human relation skills, and must have good communication skills – verbal, written and phone.

9. Ability to maintain certification-level, physical and mental readiness.

10. Literate and proficient in PC, MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Publisher). Knowledge of Dakco preferred but training will be provided if not.
