Job Description

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, the Aquatics Director oversees the development and operations of Aquatics programming. The Aquatics Director is responsible for development, implementation, marketing, planning, scheduling and evaluation of all aquatics programming of the Y and participates in volunteer and staff development in collaboration with community stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree in related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years experience in a program related to aquatics.
  • At least 2 years experience working in a supervisory role, preferable in a YMCA or other non-profit organization.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Must have computer literacy sufficient to create and send emails, take online training, create spreadsheets and work with word processing programs.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to attend offsite meetings and events.
Essential Functions
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels.
  • Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs; creating and communicating pool schedules related to classes, practices, meets and open swim times.
  • Directs and manages the development, operations, marketing and growth of all aquatics programs.
  • Ensures that staff stays up to date on in service trainings, CPR, First Aid and other required trainings and certifications.
  • Ensures that staff responds to medical emergencies both within program area as well as throughout facility. Employs appropriate first aid techniques.
  • Services contracts with outside schools and agencies/organizations.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands existing programs to support membership needs, in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.
  • Provides leadership to program development, staff development, and financial operations relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures that pool equipment is maintained according to applicable standards.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs offered; makes changes when needed to maintain effectiveness.
  • Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
  • May teach program classes or provide life guarding, when needed.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign to support the YMCA vision and mission.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with program participants, members, and volunteers and within the community.
  • Serves on assigned committees and teams; makes recommendations, answers questions and acts to make continuous improvements.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Ensures that staff follows internal policies and provides guidance for policy violations in a timely manner. Ensures that staff completes required safety training. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops and administers the annual departmental budget; Makes discretionary purchases within departmental budget.
  • Networks with appropriate professionals and keeps abreast of applicable trends via literature and professional journals to improve organizational safety.
  • Attends required meetings and events, completes required training and responds to inquiries in a timely manner. Meetings may be held at other branches and other locations.
  • Identifies and responds to child abuse according to YMCA Youth Protection Plan.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Certifications
  • Associates degree in related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years experience in a program related to aquatics.
