Job Description

Responsible for planning, development, administration, expansion, and evaluation of Youth Sports. Work with volunteers and staff to further YMCA mission; assure quality and growth of programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or sports management or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of sports rules and child development. 
  • Ability to train and supervise others.
  • Ability to create and lead new programs.
  • Good organizational skills/attention to detail, team player, good public relations and communication skills, ability to work independently and demonstrate good judgment. 
  • Must pass criminal background check and obtain and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR. 
  • Good working experience with computers and applications such as Word and Excel.  Willingness to work various and extended hours when necessary.

Essential Functions
  1. Supervise and oversee sports staff, volunteers and all operations of the sports department
  2. Recruit, train, supervise and develop staff and volunteers to conduct programs and services.
  3. Work with School Districts and other partners to secure program site locations.
  4. Oversee program registration
  5. Develop program flyers
  6. Promote and highlight programs through social media
  7. Conduct staff/volunteer meetings and trainings
  8. Develop positive relationships with parents and families of all program participants.
  9. Develop and maintain positive relations with partnering agencies/organizations
  10. Work to assure quality and safety of all programs
  11. Promote and expand programming to meet YMCA goals and community needs
  12. Complete required reports
  13. Attend and contribute to meetings (such as staff, program committee, and community meetings)                          
  14. Be an advocate for YMCA, its mission, and all programs
  15. Develop departmental budgets. Monitor budgetary statements and prepare variance reports. Ensure the attainment of budgetary objectives.
  16. Participate as a member of the management team responsible for the overall operation of the YMCA.
  17. Assist with fundraising and grant writing.
  18. Secure and maintain appropriate certifications/trainings.
  19. Focus on specific safety and risk management practices to assure safe programs and facilities.
  20. Ensure the coordination of ordering team shirts, supplies, and equipment.
  21. Ensure league program teams are organized.
  22. Ensure that all volunteers and staff are properly trained in all aspects of YMCA progressive skill development, program participation policies and child abuse prevention.
  23. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee needs sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform principal activities and to safely supervise program activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
