Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development (ED Development), this position creates, implements and monitors donor strategies to grow contributed revenue from association and branch major and planned giving donors. Provides direct support to branch leaders as they steward individual, business, and private foundation donors of $1,000 and higher. As a key member of the association financial development team, maintains knowledge about current philanthropy trends and charitable giving practices, and has the ability to teach, coach and share information with staff and volunteers throughout the organization. Positions the YMCA as a “charity of choice” within the local community.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in financial development or program development
  • Preferred experience in annual giving, donor events, or major gifts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems
  • Demonstrated fund raising success using donor moves management
  • Experience with donor management systems, Raiser’s Edge preferred.


Essential Functions

1.    Lead the development and implementation of a successful donor retention and recognition program focused on stewardship of gifts $1,000 or more and legacy donors.

2.    In partnership with branch leaders, manage a portfolio of 350-400 current major gift and legacy donors.

3.    Design and implement individual face-to-face visits, small group activities, and group strategies for engaging current major donors.

4.    Implement best practices to achieve donor retention goals.

5.    Partner with marketing department to develop strategies and communication plan for donor stewardship.

6.    Develop an annual plan to steward branch fundraising volunteers.

7.    In partnership with Development Services Project Manager, conducts regular analysis and reporting of donor stewardship activities and retention progress.

8.    Educate and engage branch leaders and advisory board volunteers in promoting planned giving / Heritage Club at the branch level

9.    Coordinates annual giving and donor events, projects and committees.

10. Responsible for entering all donor moves into donor management system.
