Aquatics Coordinator

Directly support the Aquatics Center in the Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility of our youth and patrons!
Job Description

The Aquatics Coordinator assists in supervising the day to day operations of the aquatic department, including staff supervision, program development, program quality, pool maintenance/cleaning, and safety assessment.

Qualifications
  1. 1 to 3 years of experience and some supervisory experience. Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Current YMCA or ARC lifeguard, CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications.
  3. Proficient in swimming and safety skills.
  4. Must pass a water skills test and written exam.
  5. Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  6. Able to read, write and perform basic math to complete daily chemical logs.
  7. Must possess strong organizational, computer, and communication skills, written and verbal.
  8. Ability to train swim lesson and fitness instructors.
  9. Prefer trainer level certification in YMCA Swim Lessons: Fitness Classes, Youth & Adult, Preschool, and Child/Parent.
  10. Certification in areas of expertise.
  11. At least one year of experience teaching aquatic fitness classes preferred.
Essential Functions
  1. Provide exceptional customer service to contribute to positive experiences for all Y Members and guests.
  2. Manage, assess and grow aquatics fitness classes.
  3. Ensure substitutes are secured for staff as needed.
  4. Assure staff certifications are current and on file.
  5. Oversee the Early Childcare Education swim lesson program.
  6. Teach lifeguarding, CPR/First Aid/AED, babysitting and YMCA Swim Instructor classes.
  7. Assist in providing day to day coordination of aquatic programming.
  8. Assist in providing the Aquatics Manager in daily duties and programming.
  9. Assist in scheduling staff to ensure safety and quality program delivery.
  10. Assist in supervising aquatic staff as well as providing evaluation input.
  11. Assist in the implementation of programming. Including, but not limited to aquatic lessons, other aquatics programming, and/or lifeguard as scheduled and necessary.
  12. Assist in training new staff as well as providing ongoing trainings in accordance with aquatics department training schedule.
  13. Act in a supervisory role in case of injury, accident, or illness and in accordance with established emergency procedures.
  14. Provide backup to lifeguards as needed.
  15. Immediately notify a supervisor and maintenance of any broken equipment or unsafe aspects of the pool and/or aquatic department.
  16. Assist in conducting all staff meetings and in-services as scheduled.
  17. Assist in the development and distribution of program information that promote the aquatic’s department, programs and initiatives.
  18. Support strategic interests of the aquatics department and association as defined by the Aquatics Director, CEO and board.
  19. Ensure that program areas, office areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in a professional, orderly and safe manner.
  20. Comply with all association safety standards and procedures and ensure adherence to state and county standards.
  21. Adhere to and role model all policies, procedures and guidelines of the YMCA.

Required Certifications

  3. Must complete Child Abuse prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Violence, Sexual Harassment, Elder Abuse and Emergency Procedure trainings prior to the start of your first shift.
