Job Description

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, the Associate Branch Executive Director is responsible for promoting, developing, and overseeing all activities associated with Membership, Aquatics and Wellness programming. This includes coaching, mentoring and managing a full-time Aquatics Director and part-time direct reports in Membership and Wellness. The Associate Branch Executive Director also supports all aspects of membership and program development for the Hillsborough YMCA branch including the recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and Member Engagement.

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business or a related field, 
     or equivalent, preferred.
  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision 
     of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, 
     and program development.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in a member/customer service related role required 
  • Experience directing youth programming.
  • Superior leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with staff and interact with membership.
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule and expectations to work evenings and some weekends. 
  • Excellent organizational, member engagement, staff development, administrative and communication skills
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
  • Has solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel as well as good administrative skills.
Essential Functions
  1. Supports all designated programming in partnership with the Branch Executive Director.
  2. In conjunction with the Aquatics Director the Associate BED is responsible for the Aquatics department budget, development and implementation of all programming with an emphasis on revenue-generating activities and pool safety initiatives.
  3. Ensures high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
  4. Develops and directs high-quality member-focused strategies using innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff that support branch and Association goals and strategies. 
  5. Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  6. Develops, manages, and monitors assigned operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations. 
  7. Supports onsite social responsibility initiatives based on community needs. 
  8. Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote membership and program growth in harmony with overall YMCA objectives.
  9. Implement strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Create a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  10. Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. 
  11. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and online registration. 
  12. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to branch Program Directors and lead staff on related issues.
  13. Supports management of daily deposits, review daily cash reconciliation, follow-up on collections of returned drafts/returned checks and audit petty cash. 
  14. Ensure proper implementation of front desk procedures. Review and update desk procedures and communicates changes to staff. Coordinates with the finance office as necessary on financial transactions.
  15. Organize membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA
  16. Provide oversight for Financial Assistance including but not limited to: intake of applications, committee meetings, as well as administrative tracking of application approval and denials. 
  17. Develops, plans and implements new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals.
