Job Description

The Program Director responsibilities include budgeting, hiring, training, and scheduling of staff to operate the following program areas for the branch; Active Older Adults, Youth programming, KidZone; Birthday Party rentals; Inflatables programming; and related programming. 


The Program Director must be a be a high school graduate, a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Family Studies, or related field is preferred, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience managing staff is required. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with a high volume of work and solve problems quickly and confidently. Experience in programming, planning, or related field preferred and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

Essential Functions

1.   Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.

2.   Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3.   Establishes and expands programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

4.   Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information throughout the district. 

5.   Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

6.   Develops and monitors program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.

7.   Coordinates use of facilities for program events.

8.   Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

9.   Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

10. Actively participate in the Annual Scholarship Campaign by helping to raise dollars toward the district goal.

11. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
