Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Program Directot the position's primary goal is to assist in the administration of health & wellness programs for members in accordance with the objectives and policies set forth by the Association.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • This position requires an understanding of the roles of the Board of Directors, the program committee, related committees and the general membership for the effective discharge of responsibilities of the position.
  • Educational background in fitness testing or exercise physiology (recommended).
  • Strong public relations skills.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforces safety regulations, and applies appropriate management techniques.
Essential Functions
  1. Manages all wellness programs including but not limited to coordinating fitness classes and programs, fitness assessments, equipment orientations, following new member onboarding best practices, and special events.
  2. Conducts wellness classes, programs and training of staff and volunteers of the department in the performance of their respective responsibilities.
  3. Prepares and administers the annual department budget. Takes appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness of the association and integrity of the department.
  4. Directs all part-time staff for their effectiveness and evaluates every 6 months. Objectives for success should be clearly outlined in the annual performance appraisal.
  5. Recruits, trains and recognizes non-exempt health and wellness staff and volunteers; observes individual performance and appraises effectiveness. Communicates findings to the Senior Program Director.
  6. Reviews and evaluates the class attendance, program enrollment and services provided by the wellness department and communicates findings to their supervisor.
  7. Develops new and innovative programs in the area of health & wellness, while targeting youth, adults, seniors and families with an emphasis on increased membership retention.
  8. Promotes and implements relationship building and character development in all programming, training and supervision.
  9. Builds and maintains a high standard of customer service for all members.
  10. Performs Manager-On-Duty functions as assigned by supervisor.
  11. Performs all other duties as assigned.
