Job Description

The Staff Accountant will serve as a member of the CFO’s Finance team and manage the day-to-day accounting activities, including monthly close process, bank and balance sheet account reconciliations and the preparation of monthly financial reports.  Additional responsibilities include year-end audit preparation, financial analysis, budget preparations and supporting internal and external customers regarding accounting and business inquiries. Perform other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the CFO.  The Staff Accountant will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work at the YMCA of Montclair.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of three years general ledger accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and month-end closing process.
  • Must have broad knowledge of GAAP. 
  • Highly proficient computer skills including use of MS Office products such as Excel, Word, and One Drive.
  • Exposure to a mid-level accounting system and report writer are required; Microsoft Dynamics is preferred but not required.
  • Must be a team player with good organization and communication skills, exceptional analytical and excellent interpersonal skills.  
Essential Functions

The YMCA of Montclair is seeking a competent, committed, and creative Staff Accountant to support the finance functions of our Association.  Candidates must have solid business acumen and good analytical as well as technical skills.  Considerable knowledge of budgetary, accounting and reporting systems is preferred. The incumbent will help ensure that finance processes, procedures and internal controls are effective and efficient. Additionally, he/she will work as a member of the finance team as a highly visible department liaison, assisting all departments in interpreting and improving financial reporting activities. 

  • Demonstrate strong and effective leadership over the monthly closing and reporting process.
  • Manage the month-end responsibilities related to scheduled monthly journal entries.
  • Maintain and update monthly - balance sheet, payroll, and sub-ledger schedules.
  • Reconcile bank statements to the General Ledger.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset schedules and record capital expenditures. 
  • Responsible for preparing ad-hoc statistical reports.
  • Maintain and prepare audit schedules needed for the annual fiscal review.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to develop progressive methods and systems that capture and report the Association’s critical business metrics.

Required Certifications
