Located in Watha, North Carolina, Camp Kirkwood has been helping children discover who they are and what they can achieve for over 60 years. YMCA Camp Kirkwood is located just outside of Wilmington, NC on 195 acres of pristine woodlands and features a 10-acre lake. In December of 2009, the YMCA of Southeastern NC (formerly known as the Wilmington Family YMCA) formed a partnership with the Friends of Camp Kirkwood to take over the camp's operation in an effort to revitalize its mission of serving youth. The result of this partnership is that the YMCA and Friends of Camp Kirkwood have been successful in raising funds to expand camp offerings by adding elements including: low ropes course, high ropes course & zip line, a prayer labyrinth, power pole and paddle boards, and much more. Job Description

Associate Director will oversee daily operations of the overnight camp during summer months and weekend retreats during the non-summer months.  This person will also assist the leadership team in program planning, development, and implementation.  Associate Director must be ready to assist in all aspects of camp.

Qualifications

1. Experience in YMCA resident camping.

2. Ability to obtain lifeguard certification/high ropes certification.

3. Experience in training/supervising summer camp staff.

4. Desire and ability to work with children.

5. Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.

Essential Functions

1. Hire, train, supervise summer camp staff.  Promote/plan for overnight camp.

2. Promote weekend retreats, book, and oversee operations.

3. Assist camp staff in all cleaning, maintenance, and program implementation throughout the year.

4. Promote camp all year round by displaying the core values of the YMCA.

5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.

6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
