Behavioral and Mental Health Services

Youth and Family Services (YFS) focuses on health and wellness from the inside out. We work with you to ensure that your physiological, emotional and behavioral health needs are being met through a variety of programs that support individual or family goals.

Low-cost or sliding-scale confidential counseling services are offered.

YFS Counseling Team

Our trained service providers include licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapist registered interns and trainees, registered associate clinical social workers and social work interns, and professional clinical counselor interns and trainees.

Counseling Services

YMCA Youth and Family Services offers low-cost therapeutic counseling to support children, individuals, couples and families in the pursuit of a healthy and fulfilling life. Our counseling services, located in central San Diego, provide help to guide you through life’s difficulties, including anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief and loss, trauma recovery, parenting challenges, etc.

School-Based Counseling

Our school-based counseling programs are a collaborative effort between YFS, communities, schools and families to ensure our youth’s success. These programs include the Healthy Start Building Bridges Program at Roosevelt Middle School, Sherman Academy, and Ocean Beach Elementary as well as the TIDES Program at select schools in central San Diego.

Oz San Diego

Oz San Diego is a residential two-week intensive treatment program for adolescents, ages 12 to 17. While in treatment, youth attend counseling sessions and engage in daily enrichment and recreational activities that are designed to help them learn basic living skills, take responsibility for their own behavior and interact more effectively with their family members.

Well-Being Annex and Workshops

The Well-being Annex offers low-cost therapeutic counseling services in North San Diego County, as well as, trainings and enrichment workshops on a variety of behavioral and mental health topics including mindfulness, critical thinking, crisis management and cultural awareness.

YFS Internships and Practicum Placement

At the Y, we invest in helping everyone reach their fullest potential. We offer internships and placement opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing a rewarding career in human services. Youth & Family Services offers Masters Degree level practicum placements within our Counseling Services, Kinship Support Services and residential treatment program.
