Tom Madeyski – Executive Director
Tom has been the Executive Director of the San Diego YMCA Camps since 1990 and has worked full-time in overnight camping since 1980. He is a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Recreation Administration and is a certified organizational leader with the YMCA of the USA. Tom’s two daughters grew up at YMCA camps. He witnessed his own children’s personal growth as campers, Leaders In Training and also as staff! Tom lives on-site at YMCA Raintree Ranch with his wife Dobbie, a career teacher and “Camp Mom”.
Simon Hansen – Associate Executive Director
Simon Hansen’s been around camp since 1996. He now lives there with his lovely wife Kymm. He thinks camp is cool, camp is sweet and it can’t be beat. His favorite things at camp are hiking in the forest, canoeing on the lake and singing those crazy camp songs – I wish I was a buzzard!!
Ryan James – Outdoor Education Program Director
Ryan started as our Outdoor Education Director in 2013 but had previously worked for Camp Marston as Summer and Outdoor Education staff. He has also worked at YMCA Camp Orkila in Washington State, and most recently served as the Group Camping Director at YMCA Camp Greenville in South Carolina. Ryan oversees our Outdoor Education/6th grade camp programs at both Marston and Raintree which serve over 8,000 students from September to June each year.
Tera Miller – Program Director of Camp Marston and Groups Services
Tera is a San Diego native, born and raised in Vista, California. She graduated from CSUSM with her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and earned a master’s degree in Social Work from SDSU. Tera started working Day Camp for the YMCA in 2005 at the Magdalena Ecke Family Y in Encinitas, where she stayed for ten years. She is super pumped to do what she loves (camp!) in the mountains as the Program Director of Camp Marston and Groups Services. Camp is amazing!
Kara Gentry – Food Service Director
Kara has been with us since 2010! She has a degree in Marine Biology, lives in Julian with her husband and daughter. She recently became a proud grandmother, and is excited about continuing to bring healthy, homemade meals to our campers and guests. Kara has a passion for people and is excited to grow her talented team of food service professionals.
Rochelle McKeon – Administration Specialist
Rochelle has worked with YMCA for over five years spending most of her time in youth development and social services. Prior to working for the Y she worked for Camp Fire USA as the Program Administrator overseeing resident camp, day camps, and outdoor education. Combining her Master’s in Educational Counseling, her love for camp, and her experience in operations led her to be the Admin Specialist for Camp Marston and Raintree Ranch in 2015. Outside of her work her passions include traveling, sports, writing and crafting. She is happily married, has two nephews and six younger siblings with whom she enjoys spending most of her time with. Rochelle feels ridiculously blessed to work with some pretty amazing people in a gorgeous place.
Otilia Cervantes – Camp Registrar
Otilia’s friendly and bubbly personality brings an expertise in customer service and administrative skills to camp. She graduated from the University of California, Riverside earning her BA degree in Sociology. She has witnessed the magic of camp and believes camping is “s’more” fun with friends! In her spare time, Otilia is all about her family, friends, reading, Disney and pizza. When asked what she loves about her job, Otilia said, “I get to touch people’s lives with what I do and that, my friends, keeps me going.”
John Smith – Facilities Director
John has been with us for 15 years, and in this position as facilities director for 2 years. John is a Southern California native, who comes with a wealth of knowledge in construction, particularly in masonry. He has a keen eye for high-quality maintenance systems as well as a creative flair for camp facilities. John’s love for camp can be seen throughout all our beautiful facilities.
Paul Lawrence – Housekeeping Director
Paul has been with our operation for over 6 years and continues to put quality first in his work. He pays attention to the little things to make sure your cabins are as clean, fresh and sanitary as possible when you move in.
