Partnerships With the YMCA of San Diego County
For 137 years the YMCA of San Diego County has been dedicated to strengthening the foundations of our communities through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA has the collective capacity and strength of our Y Movement to achieve our goals, and we know progress is only possible if we work together within our communities.
Together, we are committed to giving young people the resources to reach their potential, providing individuals with the access and support to lead healthy lives and connecting neighbors so they can come together for the common good.
With deep gratitude, we recognize and acknowledge our partners for their continued dedication and support of the Y’s mission, programs and services throughout San Diego County.

Other Partners of the YMCA
Challenged Athletes Foundation
With a shared a commitment to improving the lives of others and making a difference in our community, the YMCA of San Diego County is pleased to partner with the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF).
Since February 2013, more than 1,200 San Diego-based physically challenged athletes and their immediate families have received a complimentary lifetime Y membership.
Established in 1997, CAF grew out of a desire to assist one athlete paralyzed in a triathlon. From this modest beginning arose a more important mission to make sure people with physical challenges have the same freedom to enjoy sports as everyone else.
All San Diego County CAF athletes are encouraged to visit their local Y branch to sign up for their FREE, life-long, family membership.
San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E)
The YMCA of San Diego County is extremely grateful to San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) for its long partnership, with hundreds of thousands of youth and families being positively impacted by their generosity.
For nearly fifteen years, SDG&E was the exclusive sponsor of the YMCA’s Character Development program, with year-round activities focused on teaching the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in all Y programs. SDG&E’s contribution provided program and recognition materials for youth, enhanced community awareness, and supported the annual countywide Poster, Speech and Essay Contest.
In 2017, SDG&E launched its Inspiring Future Leaders Giving Initiative. The initiative supports programs that build a strong interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) at an early age and serve youth from underserved and diverse communities.
At the Y, this includes support for our Mobile Robotics Program that provides foundational robotic instruction to youth in underserved communities. The program provides hands-on learning experiences that improve analytic and problem-solving skills, increase youth interest and engagement in STEM, and promote awareness of STEM careers.
