It's the new year, and with that comes our renewed vigor for all things healthy! Here's a roundup of what's new for you and your family at Mission Valley Y. We're all about helping you achieve your goals, and we're committed to providing the avenues, atmosphere and attitude to help you stay on track. 

Facility News

President's Day: We are free and open to all on Monday, February 19. Invite a friend to experience the Y!

Mission Valley YMCA is going solar! Please be aware of potential congestion in the parking lot during the construction, dates to be determined. We'll keep you posted on the website and via text alerts. See Text Alerts to subscribe. 

Gymnasium floor resurfacing: March 19-24. The gym will be closed during this time. 

Policy/courtesy reminders: 

  • Please refrain from using products with strong fragrances. Some of our members have medical issues that are exacerbated by the exposure to a variety of products used regularly in our locker rooms and fitness areas. 
  • Equipment etiquette: Please remember to wipe down the equipment after use in the fitness center. Spray the towel; then wipe.
  • Phone calls: Please, take your calls outside the fitness centers and group exercise classes. 
  • Keep it to 30 minutes on the cardio equipment if others are waiting.

Share the Love, Love the Reward

Kids Night Out
Make it a date night while your youngster has a great evening at the Y! We've got you covered from 4:00-8:00pm, Saturday, February 24 at Mission Valley. This event is just for members ages 3 to 12. Fee: $25. See Kids Night Out

Classes at Cymer Digital Studio
Cymer Digital Studio at Mission Valley Y hosts monthly classes in computer basics, photo editing, video production, robotics and more. Coming up: 

Social Media Workshop - 4:00pm, Tuesdays, starting February 27 or March 27. We'll focus on a different platform each week in this four-session course. 

Build Me Robotics - Choose the class for beginners at 4:00pm, Wednesdays, starting February 28 or April 4 (ages 8-12) or the intermediate class, 4:00pm, Fridays, starting February 16 or March 23 (ages 8-15).  

Comic Writing Workshop - 3:15pm, Wednesdays, starting February 28 or March 28. We'll cover two main methods of comic script writing in this basic course. Ages 12+

Film Studio Workshop - 5:00pm, Wednesdays, starting February 28 or March 28. Learn the basics of filmmaking. No prior experience needed. Ages 13+

Photoshop - 5:00pm, Thursdays, starting March 8 or April 12. Learn your way around Photoshop. Ages 18+

Bring your game to the Y! Check out adult leagues; a volleyball clinic for ages 9+ starting February 19; soccer and basketball leagues for ages 5+ starting in April; and preschool classes for our smallest sports, starting February 26. See all sports.

Camp: Best Spring Ever 
When school is out, the fun times are at the Y! New: Spring break day camps for ages 5 to 12 at Mission Valley Y, March 26 to 30. Choose from:

  • Funster Chefs, Laser Tag or SeaWorld at Mission Valley Y
  • Gymnastics, Legoland, Soccer, Gymnastics, High Fives, Voyagers and Adventure

Group exercise
More than 140 weekly classes in our studios and the pool, free to members. See yoga, BODYPUMP, Aqua Fit, Zumba, cycling, Extreme Fit, Pilates and more. See Group exercise

When you're either starting or getting back into exercise, having someone there to get you started and guide you can be key to establishing the habit of a regular routine. Personal training
New clients can take advantage of a five-session package for just $199. Hiring a personal trainer is one of the sure-fire ways to ensure you stay on track to meet your goals! Our trainers are certified, knowledgeable and friendly! Choose land, aquatic or GRAVITY training in one-on-one, semi-private or small-group session packages. You can do hundreds of different exercises on the GRAVITY Training System. These group classes meet weekly in Studio 2 and are a popular method of training for strength, balance and overal conditioning. Masters Swim
Our masters swim team has more than 25 practice sessions available every week. See masters swim.

Train in the Pool 
Training in water is one of the smartest ways to add strength and endurance without injury. Try our Pool to Slopes class to help you get in top shape for the ski slopes or jump in to enhance your running regime. If you are getting prepared for surgery or recovering from it, try Knee/Hip Rehab. Some people who take this class end up being able to skip surgery altogether. Fee required.

Get Sporty
Play basketball, volleyball or soccer in one of recreational leagues for adults. Register your team or join an existing one. New leagues starting all of the time. See sports

Frequent Y'er
When you visit the Y 12 times in a month, you could win a prize! Ask for your Frequent Y'er card at the Welcome Center.

New: Tap dance classes for teens/adults on Monday evenings at Toby Wells Y. What a great way to have fun and get some exercise! See dance.

Family swim
Take a dip with the kids. We have special time set aside each week for family swim and water slide fun. See Family Swim on the pool schedule.

Mission Valley YMCA operates Krause Family Skate and Bike Park in Clairemont is 60,000 square feet of ramps and courses for all skill levels. From beginners to pros, the park attracts skate and bike enthusiasts of all ages. Memberships available, as well as session passes, lesson and skate parties. See skate.

Our youngest sports can learn skills and build confidence in weekly classes in basketball, T-ball, soccer, flag football or multisport. New sessions will begin at the end of February. See preschool sports.

Swim lessons

Y's Active Adults (Ages 50+)

Check out the schedule of programs and events through March. Our large group of adults over 50 engage in a variety of activities on a regular basis, including hikes, day trips, games, workshops, social gatherings, sports and more. Top billing:
