At the Y, kids challenge their bodies and minds. This
summer, YMCA of San Diego County is proud to offer a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Skate Camp for
nearly 100 kids, thanks to a $15K grant from Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds program. Funds also help to support Clash
at Clairemont, an annual fundraising event, celebrating all things skate, bike,
BMX and benefiting the YMCA
Krause Family Skate & Bike Park in San Diego.

Connect a Million Minds is Time Warner Cable's
five-year $100 million cash and in-kind commitment to inspire young people to
pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM). Launched in November 2009 in conjunction with President Obama's Educate
to Innovate campaign, Connect a Million Minds engages Time Warner Cable
employees, customers and community leaders in addressing the growing need for a
STEM-skilled workforce.

The YMCA Skateboard Camp will be held at the YMCA Krause Family
Skate & Bike Park and is for kids 6 15 years old. Kids will skate plus
learn the mechanics and physiology behind the skateboard. They will learn the
angles and build a board and may eventually drop into the largest vertical ramp
on the West Coast! Camp dates run through August 4, 2014. Visit http://www.missionvalley.ymca.org/stem-skate-camp.html

¢‰âÒFrom swimming lessons to science and engineering, the
Y values all learning in innovative and creative ways,¢‰âÂå said Shelly McTighe-Rippengale,
Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer, YMCA of San Diego County.
¢‰âÒTime Warner Cable's generous donation will
make a lasting difference in our community; more kids will now have access to
hands-on, project based learning experiences.¢‰âÂå

YMCA of San Diego County held its first STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) Pilot Project in July 2012. Kids from
City Heights and Memorial Prep Middle School in Logan Heights increased their
knowledge of STEAM content areas by 16% in just two short weeks. Ever since,
the Y has been committed to incorporating more STEAM/STEM learning
opportunities into Y programs including after school programs and day camps
throughout San Diego.

TWC's Connect a Million Minds initiative promotes
science, technology, engineering and math so that our kids will compete
successfully in the world.
