PONY Baseball season is in full swing and with that comes temporary closures to our Aquatics Center. Please click here for the latest schedule.
We know this is not an ideal situation for our members, our staff, or the PONY League players and coaches. We thank you for your patience and grace as we navigate this challenge.
Safety is always our top priority at the YMCA and we appreciate the community’s ideas. There are several other ideas we’ve already explored to no avail.
The YMCA secured a third party engineer to better study the fields, baseball trajectories and distances to understand the risk and what is necessary to keep our pools and members safe. They have preliminary results and recommendations, and there is a pending meeting with the City and the YMCA to further discuss.
For the short term, we unfortunately have little choice but to close our aquatics center during batting practice and game times. For the long-term, we know all parties value the safety of families and children above all else, and we are confident that we can come to a resolution.
We will keep this page updated as we know more.
And don’t forget! When you’re a member of the YMCA of San Diego County, you have access to ALL of our branches. Our closest Y locations with a pool include: Toby Wells Y (Kearny Mesa), Mission Valley Y, Rancho Family Y (Rancho Penasquitos) or the Ecke Family Y (Encinitas).
