Tara Hodgens is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has worked in the mental health field with diverse populations for 17 years. She is an AAMFT approved supervisor and has been supervising MFT and ASW interns for 8 years.

Tara completed the Community-Based Block (CBB) program in 2001 at San Diego State University (SDSU) with her certificate in Multicultural Counseling/Education. She graduated from SDSU in 2003 with her Masters of Science in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. Tara began working for the Y as an intern at YMCA's Oz San Diego and has worked in many clinical settings, including Rady’s Children’s Hospital and various clinics. She has taught courses in Psychology, Culture in Mental Health, and Behavioral Sciences.

Tara supervises MFT, PCC and ASW interns as well as conducts various staff trainings and workshops on mental health and well-being. Tara’s ecological & systemic approach to supervision focuses on understanding the family dynamic within its societal/cultural context as well as developing interns core competencies for BBS licensure. Tara uses a feedback –informed approach when working with interns and implements this as a deliberate practice in her meetings and workshops to ensure and track that families and interns are getting the results that they seek from counseling.

On her down time, Tara enjoys paddle boarding, reading, writing and spending time with family, friends and dogs!
