outpatient family services
We believe families are the crucible where children learn to think, feel, and behave. Family members are interdependent with one another: what affects one member affects the other members. The family resides in the context of a larger social system (school, neighborhood, peers, and spiritual community) which also influence a child’s development. As such, we seek to improve family relationships which impact the youth’s problem behaviors.
We target family interaction patterns that directly relate to the adolescent’s problem behaviors. The focus is on how the interaction transpired rather than what occurred. By directly harnessing the strength of the family to address problem behaviors and interactions, we find that problem behaviors and conflict begin to diminish in a relatively short amount of time (12-15 weeks). Specific parenting education is provided in how to parent adolescents effectively.
